Academic
Advisor.- This person is here to help you with your academic
concerns. Which classes to register for, changing your major,
declaring a major, evaluation of credits and audits.
Auditing
a Course - To take a course without obligation (of work
assignments and attendance). Students do not receive credit.
Co-Requisite
- Two courses that must be completed concurrently during
the same semester.
DA
- "Desk Assistant"; The individual you present your Identification
Card each time you enter a residence hall
Dean
's List - Status obtained when a student receives a GPA
of at least 3.5
Full-time
Student - A student enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit
hours each semester.
This
is IMPORTANT/mandatory if you wish to receive Financial Aid or
remain on parents' health insurance
GPA
- This is your "grade point average"
ID
- "Identification Card"; Means of Identification for the
Library, meals, and access to residence halls. You must have a
valid sticker on your card each semester which you should receive
once you pay your bill.
Part-time
Student - Enrolled in a maximum of 9 credits per semester.
Provisional Student - If a student does
not meet entrance requirements, they may be permitted to take
courses on a part-time basis only. After successfully completing
two semesters, they can apply for full-time status.
Plagiarism
- The copying or imitating of another's work that could
lead to the removal from the University.
Prerequisite
- A course that must be completed prior to enrollment
in a subsequent course.
RA
- "Resident Assistant"; One individual assigned per floor.
RAT
- Rathskellar is a place in the student center for snacks
and coffee; a pub
RD
- "Resident Director"; One individual assigned per building.
Registrar
- Department involved with transcripts, registration,
and graduation audits.
Residence
Hall - Place at which a resident student lives during
the academic year
Rush
- Events preceding pledging of a Fraternity or Sorority
RHA
- "Resident Hall Association"; Resident hall student government
SGA
- "Student Government Association"
Semester
Hour / Credit Hour - The amount of credit that can be
earned for a course(s).
Generally, students are expected to spend approximately
three
hours studying for each clock hour spent in the classroom.
Syllabus
- Outline of your course which your professors give to you; contains
information on office hours, distribution of grades and attendance
policy.
TA
- "Teacher Assistant"; A student who aids a professor
during the semester and receives credit.
Transcripts
- A record of your academic history. IF YOU ARE AN INTERNATIONAL
STUDENT PLEASE HAVE WORLD EDUCATIONAL SERVICES (WES) EVALUATE
YOUR TRANSCRIPTS.

Services - Where students receive tutoring.
